Basic Firearms Training

This training is for first-time applicants who decided they want to obtain their own firearm.  

To acquire a competency the firearms control act unit standard is compulsory by SAPS.

All our course fee's includes training manual, range fee,
firearms, ammunition, ear, eye protection and targets.

Students can also use someone they know firearm and ammunition or their own.

When you book your course, you will have to collect your training material in advance.  There is an open book test in the training manual which needs to be completed before the course takes place.  All the answers can be found in the training manual.  When you attend the course, the instructor will work through the content in the training manual with you and then take you through the practical side of safe firearms handling and use.  You will be expected to complete a closed book exam based on the same questions that were contained in the open book exam.  Passing the open book, closed book and practical exam qualifies you for the Unit Standard.

Once you have completed your training and was found competent, you will receive you training certificate, statement of result and completed SAPS competency application which you can hand in at SAPS to apply for your competency.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 

This unit standard is for persons who need to demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act No 60 of 2000), herein after the Act that is applicable to legally possess a firearm. Persons credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the statutory duties and obligations of firearm ownership as contained in the Act;

  • Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession, handling, carrying, storage and use of firearms as prescribed by the Act; and

  • Demonstrate understanding of the statutory prescriptions applicable to the possession and storage of ammunition as prescribed by the Act.

Before attending the class the learner need to work through the training manual and complete the open book exam in the manual.

This unit standard is compulsory by SAPS for a person who which to apply for their competency and firearms license.

This unit standard is for anyone who privately uses a handgun and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation.

Persons credited with this unit standard are capable of:

  • Handling a handgun.

  • Use a handgun.

  • Carrying out basic inspection and maintenance of a handgun for safe use. 

Before attending the class the learner need to work through the training manual and complete the open book exam in the manual.

Handle and use a shotgun (119652)

  • Carrying out basic inspection and maintenance of a self-loading rifle or carbine for safe use.

Firearms Familiarization

FAMILIARIZATION AND SAFETY TRAINING

Firearms familiarization and safety training.  Safe firearms handling, loading and unloading (utilizing inert “dummy” rounds) and basic safety rules will be practiced as well as how to shoot with a firearm and become familiar with shooting a firearm.  This a great for first time shooters who want to become confident in shooting  with a firearm and learn correct shooting principles.
